Authlete is a Web service for developers who want to develop their own Web APIs of their services. To be concrete, Authlete is a BaaS which helps users to implement OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect. Authlete manages access tokens and other related data on behalf of users. A company has to implement OAuth 2.0 (and OpenID Connect) as prerequisites to provide Web APIs of its service (as Facebook, Twitter, etc. do). However, it requires enormous time and effort to implement the specifications. This hurdle could prove fatal to service providers who compete on time to market. It is Authlete that solves the problem. Authlete does correctly support an overwhelming number of related specifications and host related data (note that even Facebook has errors in its implementation). Users can implement the specifications by writing a very thin wrapper layer. Authlete is a rare and seldom heard BaaS for “authorization” (not "authentication") and aiming at becoming a fundamental service for Web APIs.
